SOUND INSTALLATIONS

SKETCHING FROANNA

2019, fixed medium, 8-channel sound installation (9 minutes 41 seconds) The Barber Institute of Fine Arts

This is an 8-channel composition in response to the sketch, Froanna by Wyndham Lewis. Considering the lines colours, shapes and shading of the sketch this composition uses close-up microphone recordings of chalk on paper with blue noise and electronic sounds to transport the listener to an abstract interpretation of the emotive content of the work… a portrait of Lewis’ wife, Froanna. Follow the gestural strokes of chalk on paper… What do you hear? What do you see?

ANCESTOR I

2019, University of Birmingham

Sound Sculptures is a project exploring the relationship between sound and sculpture along the University of Birmingham’s Sculpture Trail. The latest work for this project is an extended soundscape of the sculpture Ancestor I, commissioned for the Green Heart Festival launch weekend. The four movements of the composition respond to the physical form of the sculpture: head, torso, hips and legs. A sound installation located at the Barbara Hepworth sculpture, outside the entrance of Main Library, University of Birmingham. This project is a collaboration between sound artists Emma Margetson and Nikki Sheth, the Arts & Science Festival, the Cultural Collections team and the SOUNDwalker app.

SOUND SCULPTURES

2019, University of Birmingham

Sound Sculptures is a project exploring the relationship between sound and sculpture along the University of Birmingham’s Sculpture Trail. The 2018 soundscapes are influenced by the characteristics and physical properties of each sculpture to stop/start between their natural and abstract sound-worlds. The soundwalk followed the existing University Sculpture Trail Map which was created as a guide to encourage and invite members of the public, students and staff to explore and celebrate the variety of sculptureslocated across the university campus (-with some being widely accessible and some in more discrete locations). This project is a collaboration between sound artists Emma Margetson & Nikki Sheth, the Arts & Science Festival,  the Cultural Collections Team and the SOUNDwalker app*.
